We launched a new service yesterday called Elastic Apache Mesos, which makes it super easy to start an Apache Mesos cluster. We’ve made it a 3-step process on a web page, you don’t have to install anything special. We’ll even send you an email when your new Mesos cluster is ready, complete with links to personalized tutorials for how to get started with Hadoop, Spark, Chronos, Marathon, etc.
Because feedback on the user email list showed that many people were having troubles just getting clusters set up. This new service builds on top of Amazon AWS to collapse what had been a multi-day process — in terms of learning curve — into about 20 minutes. Most of the time involved now is simply waiting for the EC2 nodes to start up.
While we’re on the topic of learning about Mesos, we had a meetup about Apache Mesos at the Chicago Hadoop Users Group last week, and the video was recently posted on Vimeo. Also, mark your calendars and join us next Tuesday, November 19 at 6:00 pm, at Twitter HQ in SF for the first Mesos Townhall Meeting. Join lots of developers and organizations working with Apache Mesos and related projects. See you there!
