In the next three years, over 26 billion devices will be connected to the Internet. That’s a lot of “things” being added to the IoT, making our systems more connected, computational, and controlling than ever. “I find [the use case of autonomous driving] really interesting,” says Jay Kreps. “It’s one of a number of examples where you are seeing companies that have existed for a long time suddenly adding this whole digital dimension to their business and then trying to figure out how to build it—what does it look like?”

Edge computing is where the next revolution in innovation will happen, and it’s key to note that this is a data-driven trend. As more apps and data move to the edge – more data will be created here and must be analyzed here. For that reason, we believe that HPE must embed more intelligence into the devices, access points and machines – not only to enable them to analyze the massive influx of data, but also more intelligence to help manage and most importantly secure the complexity and scale.

Jay Kreps is the CEO of Confluent, Inc., a company backing the popular Apache Kafka messaging system used by HPE Aruba’s IntroSpect solution. Prior to founding Confluent, he was formerly the lead architect for data infrastructure at LinkedIn.
